Richard Allen Langworthy, 94, of Red Wing, died Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at the Mayo Clinic Health Systems – Saint Mary’s Campus in Rochester.
He was born October 9, 1927 in Kenosha, Wisconsin. At 17 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in Europe during WWII. Following his honorable discharge in 1948 he returned to the states and eventually to Red Wing, where he worked as an autobody technician. Later he joined the Labor Union and was involved in the construction of the Prairie Island Nuclear Plant. He retired from the trades in 1988 and went on to maintain the grounds of the Frontenac Golf Course for 16 years. On February, 24, 1988 he married Donna Haske in a little chapel in Las Vegas and became a father to Donna’s children.
Dick was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church where he used to usher. He was also a member of the Leo C. Peterson American Legion Post 54. He loved animals and volunteered his time walking the dogs at the shelter.

Dick had many hobbies and interests. He loved building model airplanes and woodworking. He was a Harley-Davidson enthusiast and he enjoyed his camping and his RV. He was also a gifted photographer.

Dick was a calm and quiet man. He worked with anything that was thrown at him without complaint. He loved his family and was generous with his time and skills.

He will be missed by many, including his wife, Donna; 6 children, Gale Sward, Gary (Donna Butenschoen) Sward, David (Bonnie) Sward, Debbie (David Furlong) Sammon, Steven Sward and Lisa Sward; 19 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren, with one more on the way; and 1 sister, Dorothy Maloy; as well as nieces, other family, and friends.

He is preceded in death by 3 children, Allen Sward, Dean Sward and Diana Fortuna; and his parents.

A celebration of life with military honors will be 12 p.m. noon, March 5, 2022 at the Leo C. Peterson American Legion. Burial will be at Oakwood at a later date. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
