Richard William Huppert

Richard William Huppert, 80 of Lake City, died Wednesday, August 14, 2013 at Mayo Health System Lake City Hospital. He was born April 21, 1933 in Ellsworth, Wisconsin, son of Louis and Neva (McDonnell) Huppert. He graduated from McCahill School in Lake City in 1951. In 1952, Richard entered the U.S. Navy and served during the Korean War. He was discharged in 1955. He returned to Lake City and worked for Di-Acro from 1956 until 1984. On June 8, 1957, Richard married Mardell Meyer at St. Mary's in Lake City. He co-owned AcroTech in Lake City with Dale Oliver and Leon Rutz from 1984 until 1998, when he retired. Richard was a member of the Lake City VFW Post 8729, Lake City Country Club, Knights of Columbus, and St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church. In his spare time he enjoyed spending time at the cabin, working outside, summer vacations to Alexandria, fishing, golfing, his daily morning walk, and most of all, spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Richard is survived by his wife , Mardell Huppert; three children, Tamara (Steve) Breutzman of Rochester; Robert (Gail) Huppert of Lake City, and Rebecca (Mike) VanDeWalker of Rochester; five grandchildren, Nicholas Breutzman, Kayla VanDeWalker, Nathan, Jennifer and Riley Huppert; and one sister, Betty Juveli of Bloomington. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Patrick Huppert and Michael Huppert.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, August 18, 2013 at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church, with Father Joseph Pete officiating. Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery in Lake City. Military rites will be handled by Lake City VFW Post 8729 and American Legion Post 110. Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Saturday, August 17, 2013 at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson-Peterson Chapel and one hour prior to the service at the church.
