Richard W. Huneke

Richard William Huneke, 85, of Red Wing died Sunday, March 15, 2015 at St. Brigid's at Hi-Park, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 20, 1929 in Red Wing to William and Josephine (Bach) Huneke. He attended rural schools and graduated from the University Of Minnesota School Of Agriculture in 1947. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict from 1954-1956. On April 15, 1961 he married Joan Michaelsen at the Church of St. Joseph in Red Wing. For many years, they farmed the land homesteaded by his grandfather in Flower Valley and in 1991 they moved into Red Wing. He then worked part-time for Juliar Lawncare and drove truck for Ag Partners in Goodhue. He was a member of the Church of St. Joseph, Knights of Columbus and the Leo C. Peterson American Legion Post #54. He enjoyed hunting, playing cards, horses - especially draft horses, his Minneapolis Moline tractors and going to auctions. He was on a bowling league for 55 years and his family recalls how he enjoyed coffee with his friends at Dressen's and spending time with his grandchildren and their 4-H activities.

Survivors include his wife, Joan; four children, Judy (Ernest) Lillie of Prescott, Robert (Teresa) Huneke of Red Wing, Karen (Don) Naber of Red Wing and Gail (Bob) Kokett of Albany, Minn.; eight grandchildren, Nathan Huneke, Heather Huneke, Heidi Lillie, Natasha Lillie, Toby Lillie, Nicholas Kokett, Hannah Kokett and Amanda Kokett; two great grandchildren, William and Charlotte Huneke; three sisters-in-law, Jean Klein of Waterloo, Iowa, Joyce (Delmar) Klein of Lake City and Mary (Ian) Lutjen of Red Wing and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant sister, Louise.

Mass of Resurrection will be 2 p.m. Thursday, March 19, 2015 at the Church of St. Joseph with Father Thomas M. Kommers officiating. Burial with full military honors will be at the Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2015 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and at the church for one hour prior to the service.
