Richard Carl Gernentz, 67, of Red Wing, died unexpectedly, Friday, June 27, 2014, in Rice Lake, Wisconsin. He was born July 17, 1946, in Red Wing, to Vincent and Doris (Arden) Gernentz. He was drafted into the US Army and served during the Vietnam War until he was honorably discharged in June of 1975. He married Kathleen Finstad and they later divorced. He worked at Nestle Purina for many years until his retirement. He also had worked at Joe's Mobil and was currently working at Mendard's. He enjoyed fishing, motor sports, wood working and spending time at the cabin with his special friend, Jo-Ann.
He is survived by his son, Rick (Robin) of Rochester; 2 grandsons, Joseph and Richard Rhodes; a brother, Ronald (Barbara) of Red Wing; 2 nephews, Chad and Brett; and his beloved dog, Candy. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of Richard's life will be held on his birthday from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, July 17, 2014 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
