Richard (Rick) R. Cox, 68, of Lake City passed away surrounded by his family on Monday, August 07, 2017 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN. He was born on July 16, 1949 to Ralph and Gladys (Heuer) Cox in Highland Twp in Wabasha County.

The family later moved to Red Wing where Rick attended grade school and was a 1967 graduate of Central High School. He then joined the Navy for four years. He worked at S.B. Foot Tanning Company, Gillette & Eaton, Lake City Concrete for 20 years, and then at American Milk Producers Inc. (AMPI) as a boiler engineer for 21 years. He also worked part time as gambling manager for 20 years at the Lake City VFW.

On February 6, 1999, Rick married Tana Wegner at United Lutheran Church in Red Wing. They made their home in Lake City.

Rick was a kind-hearted, humble man who gave great bear hugs. He enjoyed the simple things in life, attending his grandchildren's sporting events, keeping his yard and vehicles in tip-top shape, fishing, camping and above all spending time with family and friends.
He was a proud veteran. He served as a commander of the VFW Post #8729 and was a dedicated lifetime member.

Rick is survived by his wife of eighteen years, Tana of Lake City; daughters, Heather (Tim) Kohrs, Wendie (Scott) Christianson; stepchildren, Tammy (Troy) Shell, Larry Howe Jr., Stacey Howe; five grandchildren, Ryley, Aubrey and Lola Christianson, Caden and Macy Kohrs; six step-grandchildren, Jason and Joshua Luhmann, Courtney Lorusso, Jesse Carrell, Dusty Eichhorn and Maison Howe; and six great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and infant sister.

A Graveside Service will be Thursday, August 10, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Lakewood Cemetery in Lake City with Reverend Dale Kohrs officiating. A Celebration of Richard's Life will be held Thursday from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the Lake City VFW Post #8729. Military Honors will be performed by VFW Post #8729 and American Legion Post #110. Mahn Family Funeral Home Anderson-Peterson Chapel, Lake City is in charge of arrangements.
