Richard Clayton Cook

Richard Clayton Cook, age 88, of Red Wing, died on Monday, April 29, 2013 under the loving care of Valentines Assisted Living, his home for the past year. He was born to Harry and Hulda Cook on February 18, 1925 and was raised and attended school in St. Louis Park, Minn. He was then employed at Honeywell and met and married Valeria (Larson) Cook on June 21, 1945. They loved and raised their family on Fish Lake, near Prior Lake, Minn. After working at Continental Machines for many years, Rich and Val moved to Beaverton, Ore., then later to San Jose, Calif. where he worked at Westinghouse. After retiring, they moved to Red Wing in 1990, where they were members of Hiawatha Valley Baptist Church. He enjoyed taking care of his family and home, and making others laugh with his quick sense of humor.
Those left behind to cherish his memory include his son, Richard (Darlene) Cook of Plymouth; and daughters, Gwendolyn (Steve) Wittig of Crystal, Marsha (James) Yarusso of Pasadena, CA, and Nancy (William) Ahlbrecht of Red Wing; along with his sister, Claudia (John) Cornelius of Iowa City, IA. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren, Nathan (Sarah) Yarusso, Andrew (Maya) Yarusso, Matthew (Tenaya) Yarusso, Thomas (Kim) Wittig, Jason Cook, Kristin (James) Horan, Joshua (Jessica) Ahlbrecht, and Amanda (Michael) Plote, along with ten great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Valeria; one brother, Roland Cook; and one sister, Joyce Daggett.
A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Thursday, May 2, 2013 at the Hiawatha Valley Baptist Church in Red Wing, with Reverend Chuck Friemel officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral arrangements are by the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
