Richard L. Collins, Sr., 69, of Red Wing, died Sunday, March 3, 2019 at the Mayo Hospital, St. Mary's Campus in Rochester. He was born August 20, 1949 in Leavenworth, Kansas to Howard and Rosalie (Jeannin) Collins. Early in his childhood his family moved to Minnesota where he attended Goodhue area schools. He worked various jobs through his life, including Red Wing Iron Works and he owned and operated R & D Welding. He was also a truck driver, driving for multiple companies. He then began a career in plumbing, completing his apprenticeship with Gilbertson's Plumbing before opening Collins Plumbing and Heating in 2001.
Richard loved motorcycles, particularly Harley Davidsons and he made it a point to collect any interesting Harley memorabilia he came across. He also loved to collect eagle items. He enjoyed long cross-country road trips and spending time with family and friends. He will be remembered as a successful jack-of-all-trades.
He is survived by his wife of 30 plus years, Brenda; children, Joseph Siefert and Stacey Berghammer; four grandchildren he and Brenda helped to raise, Kailee, Jakob, Amiya and Kash; children from his previous marriages; Kim Tuner, Chad (Karen) Collins, Chris (Mary) Collins, Jamie (Barbie) Collins and Richard, Jr.; sister, Linda Dahling; brothers, Keith Collins and Ronald (Bridgett) Collins as well as many nieces and nephews, other family and many good and special friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Collins; and nephew, Jay Collins. A visitation will be held Saturday, March 30, 2019 from 1-4 p.m. at the Mahn Family Funeral Home Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
