Richard O. Brooks, age 67, of Zumbrota died on Sunday May 30, 2010 at his home after a five year battle with prostate cancer.

Richard Oliver Brooks was born December 28, 1942 in Minneapolis to Donald and Irma (Endicott) Brooks. He graduated from Zumbrota High School. On December 29, 1959 he entered the U.S. Navy. He served during the Cuban Missile Crisis and the Vietnam Wara and was honorably discharged on December 3, 1963. After being discharged from the Navy, Richard went on to attend and graduate from the Spartan School of Aeronautics in Oklahoma. He then began his employment with Northwest Airlines. On August 9, 1969 he married Karen Berg in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Also that year, Richard transferred from Northwest Airlines to American Airlines. In 1970 the couple moved to Chicago, where Richard worked at O'Hare Airport. In March of 1997, after 30 years with American Airlines as an Aircraft Mechanic, Richard retired. The couple then moved to the Red Wing area, where the couple owned a hobby farm and Richard worked at ProAct in Plant Maintenance. In 2006 the couple moved back to Zumbrota where Richard continued to work for ProAct in Zumbrota.

Richard enjoyed playing the harmonica in the blue grass, gospel band, Down Home. He always had a passion for flying, he built and flew his own aircraft and he was a flight instructor. Together the couple enjoyed riding their motorized scooters across Goodhue County.

Richard is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Karen of Zumbrota; his mother, Irma Brooks of Zumbrota; his sister, Bonnie (Robert) Rolland of Zumbrota; sister in law, Pat Veiseth of Zumbrota; mother in law, Galene Berg of Zumbrota; nieces and nephews, Richard Rolland, Jonetta Rolland, Nattalie Vath, Mike Veiseth, and Adam Veiseth, all of Zumbrota; and 8 great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Donald.
