Richard George Bartels, age 80, of Red Wing, died Tuesday, September 12, 2006, at his home. He was born October 21, 1925, in Red Wing, to Reuben ?Red? and Florence (Morehouse) Bartels. He was a graduate of Red Wing Central High School and served as a medic in the U.S. Army in the Asiatic Pacific Theater during World War II. He married Florence ?Flossie? Greely Collamore on September 16, 1972, in Hastings. She died on September 6, 1986. He owned the Bar and Wheel tavern in Red Wing for thirty-five years. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church, Leo C. Peterson American Legion Post #54, life member of Burnson-Lillyblad VFW Post 1218 and Disabled American Veterans, and fifty year member of Red Men Club. He enjoyed relaxing with friends in Balsam Lake, Wisconsin. Survivors include nieces and nephews, Patty (Duane) Jackson of Tacoma, WA, Bob Bartels of Minneapolis, Terry Bartels of Hastings, Jill (Pat) McCarthy of Hinckley, Julie (Chris) Stancer of Prescott, WI, Steve (Char) Van Deusen of Red Wing, Larry (Denise) Van Deusen of Hager City, Jeanne Holst of Cannon Falls and Leola (Rodney) Lohman of Red Wing; sisters-in-law, Fern Bartels of Hastings and Vernetta Van Deusen of Red Wing. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and one brother, Silas. Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Christ Episcopal Church, Red Wing, with Reverend Charles Uhlik officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be from 4 ? 8 p.m. Friday with an American Legion prayer service at 7 p.m., at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, and one hour prior to the time of services Saturday at the church.
