Reynold "Rey" Larson, 88, of Red Wing, died at home on Monday, April 12, 2010. Rey was born June 24, 1921, in Red Wing, Minnesota, the son of Hilmer and Myrtle (Vetter) Larson. Rey graduated from Red Wing High School in 1939. He received BA and MA degrees from the University of Iowa in Iowa City in 1950 and 1951. He married Nelle Faust Rieck in 1945 in Chicago. Nelle died February 16, 1999. Rey served in World War II from 1942 until 1945 as a member of the US Signal Corp and later was transferred to the Office of Strategic Services, known as the OSS. He was employed by the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in Iowa City, IA, from 1953 until his retirement in 1982. Rey and Nelle moved back to Minnesota in 1995. He was a charter member of the Iowa City Golden K Kiwanis and a 50-year member of the Iowa City Masonic Lodge. He was also a former member of the Iowa City Amateur Radio Club and a member of the Hiawatha Valley Amateur Radio Club in Red Wing.

He is survived by his daughter-in-law Sandra Rieck of Stillwater; grandchildren, Lori (Roger) Stippel of Woodbury, Corey (Lynn) Rieck of Atlanta, and Andrew (Trish) Rieck of Stillwater; great-grandchildren Taylor and Morgan Stippel and Jackson Rieck; sisters-in-law Doris Larson of Minneapolis and Dolores Larson of Marathon, Florida; several nieces and nephews, and special friend Meredith "JO" Severson of Red Wing. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Nelle, stepson, Al Rieck, and brothers, Earl and Everett Larson.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, April 24, 2010, at First United Methodist Church with Reverend Wayne Walther officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorial donations may be made to the First United Methodist Church of Red Wing, Red Wing Area Hospice, or donor's choice. Arrangements by the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
