Reuben "Rube" Wegner, age 90, of Rochester, died Wednesday (Jan. 9, 2013) at Seasons Hospice in Rochester.
Reuben Harold Wegner was born June 3, 1922 and raised on the family farm near Hammond, MN. He served in Civilian Conservation Corps before serving in the U.S. Army during World War II. On Sept. 9, 1946 he married Irene L. Krunzel in La Crosse, WI. The couple lived in Rochester where Rube owned and operated a Blacktop Business and a Trash Removal Service. He worked for the Rochester Public Works Department and worked for the Rochester Public School System as a boiler operator for over thirty years. After retirement Rube owned and operated a Catering and Concession Business with his wife and sons. They had a contract with the city of Rochester for concessions and catering, including the Mayo Civic Center and other numerous locations for fourteen years. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Elks and Eagles Clubs and the William T. McCoy Post #92 of the American Legion.
Survivors include two sons, Jerry (Susan) Wegner, and Wayne (Pam) Wegner, both of Rochester; his grandson, Cory Wegner, six step grandchildren, Tim (Lacey), and Kelly (Nick) Aney, Jason (Tara), and Jenny Churchill, and Jay, and Matt Lyman, seven step great grandchildren, Jacob Christenson, Corey, Casey, and Addison Lyman, Caleb Strauss, and Aiden and Bennett Churchill, and his dear sweet nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Irene, who died April 2, 2012, four step sisters, two step brothers, and one nephew.
The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church with Reverend Joel D. Haak officiating. Interment will be at Grandview Memorial Gardens. Military Honors will be provided graveside by the William T. McCoy Post #92 of the American Legion. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Mahn Family Funeral Home - Rochester Chapel, and one hour before the service Saturday at the Church. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Eagles Club in Rochester from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Saturday. Memorials are suggested to Seasons Hospice.
