Raymond J. "Butch" Vogel, 74, of Goodhue, formerly of St. Joseph, Minnesota died February 26, 2007 at Fairview Red Wing Medical Center as the result of a motor vehicle accident. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM, Saturday, March 3, 2007 at St. John?s Abbey Church, Collegeville, Minnesota with Fr. Daniel Walz and Deacon Peter Mueller officiating. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4-8 PM at Mahn Family Funeral Home-Larson Chapel in Zumbrota, and on Friday, from 4-8 PM at the Assumption Chapel of the St. John?s Abbey Church in Collegeville with a prayer service at 7:30 PM. Visitation will also be held for one hour prior to the service Saturday in the Abbey Church. Raymond John Vogel was born August 17, 1932 in St. Cloud, to Aloys and Romana (Heurung) Vogel. He attended St. Cloud schools. On July 11, 1953, he married Arlene Mueller at St. John?s Cantius Church in St. Cloud. The couple resided in St. Cloud until 1973 and moved to St. Joseph. Raymond worked for as a painter for Megarry Brothers and Siegler & Speiser in St. Cloud. He also worked for St. John?s University and Abbey in construction and later as a head painter for 27 years. Following their retirement Ray and Arlene relocated to Goodhue, where they helped operate a turkey farm with their youngest daughter. Ray worked as a bus driver for Goodhue Public Schools Special Education and as a bus monitor for Vasa Children?s Home in Red Wing. He was a member of the Singing Saints Barber Shoppers in St. Cloud and volunteered at the St. Cloud Hospital. Ray loved visiting with people, gardening, woodworking and making Christmas decorations. Raymond is survived by his wife of 53 years, Arlene; sons, Tom (Mary Jo) Vogel of Sauk Rapids, MN, John Vogel of Yantis, Texas, Mike (Tracie) Vogel of Shakopee, MN, Allen (Sandy) Vogel of Albany, MN; daughters Katharine (Leroy) Anderson of Richmond, VA and Julie Gadient of Goodhue; brothers, Alfred (Elaine) Vogel of Avon, MN, Ralph (Mary Ann) Vogel and Louis Vogel, both of St. Cloud; sisters, Marcella Thies of Minneapolis, MN, Mary (Wally) Backes of Cold Spring, MN and Jane Palmershime of St. Cloud; 17 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Robert Vogel, Richard Vogel and sisters, Leora Winkelman and Lorraine Preuser. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or Vasa Children?s Home in Red Wing. Arrangements are with Mahn Family Funeral Home-Larson Chapel, Zumbrota.
