Raymond Clarence Matthees, age 66 of Goodhue died on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 at his home in Goodhue. Raymond was born November 4, 1944 in Goodhue Township, the son of Clarence and Frances (Mehrkens) Matthees. He attended District #118, Zumbrota and Goodhue Schools, graduating from Goodhue High School in 1962. He served in the US Army National Guard from September 1962 until September 1970. On September 11, 1965, Raymond was united in marriage to Marcia Mae Diercks at St. John's Lutheran Church in Goodhue. He was employed at Goodhue Elevator, Lodermeier's Implement, he was a dairy farmer and did over the road trucking for many years. He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Goodhue, serving on the finance committee, school board, and as a church elder. He was a charter member of the Goodhue Jaycees, past member of the Goodhue Lions Club, and served for 27 years on the Goodhue Township Board. He enjoyed hunting and snowmobiling in his younger years, driving his Gator and gardening.
He is survived by his wife Marcia; three daughters Debra Langerud of Audubon, MN, Dawn (Jerry) Lunde of Audubon, MN, and Joy (David) Miller of Goodhue; eight grandchildren; two sisters Judith (Gary) Stern of Red Wing, and Bette Berry of Alamogordo, New Mexico; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one son Jonathan, his parents, one niece Patricia Kyllo, and one nephew Brent Diercks.
Funeral will be 10 a.m., Saturday, March 26, 2011, at St. John's Lutheran Church rural Goodhue with Reverend Andrew Krause officiating. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. on Friday, March 25, 2011 at the church and also one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at church cemetery. Memorials may be made to the donor's choice.
