Raymond Leonard Durhman

March 10, 1932 — July 27, 2009

Raymond L. Durhman, age 77, of Zumbrota died on Monday, July 27, 2009 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester after a long battle with bone cancer. Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, August 1, 2009 at 2:00 pm at Lands Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with Reverend David Krinke officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation is scheduled at the church on Saturday one hour prior to the service.

Raymond Leonard Durhman was born on March 10, 1932 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester to Albert and Pearl (nee Cameron) Durhman. The family lived and farmed in Grand Meadow, MN. Ray graduated high school in 1950 where he excelled in both football and basketball. After graduation he worked on the family farm where they raised registered Black Angus cattle, a family tradition for over 125 years. On February 13, 1954 he married Rose Marie Bjorngaard at Lands Lutheran Church. They lived in Grand Meadow, Stewartville, Byron, Mazeppa and in 1988 moved to Zumbrota. Ray farmed, raised Black Angus (for 54 years) and sold real estate his entire adult life only retiring last year. In the 1970's he became a real estate broker and started his own company, Durhman Realty. He was a member of Lands Lutheran Church and the American Angus association. He enjoyed playing cards, fishing, raising cattle, watching the Twins and Vikings and spending time with his family.

Raymond is survived by his wife, Rose; four children, Dean Durhman of Rochester, Steven (Tonya) Durhman of Austin, TX, Julie (Don) Flassing of Sewell, NJ, and Sara (Kelly) Nygaard of Zumbrota; grandchildren, Amanda and Molly Durhman of Rochester, Nicholas, Samuel and Anna Durhman of Austin, TX, David (Trisha) Flassing of Riverside, IL, Jason (Heather) Flassing of Roanoke, VA, and Brett Flassing of Turnersville, NJ; four great grandchildren; two brothers, Neil (Lily) Durhman of Prescott, WI and Paul (Rita) Durhman of Onalaska, WI; one sister, Mary (Bob) Simonson of Bowman, ND; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Anna and Leonard Durhman; his parents; and two brothers, Alan and Charles.
