OBITUARY: Ray A. Gilsdorf
Memorial service for Ray A. Gilsdorf will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 24, 2009 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Bellechester with Father Bruce Peterson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Ray, age 51, of Bellechester, died on Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at his residence. He was born Ray Anthony Gilsdorf on November 22, 1957 in Lake City, MN to Leo and Ethel (Majerus) Gilsdorf. He attended school in Bellechester and graduated from Goodhue High School. He entered the U.S. Navy and, following his discharge returned to Bellechester where he attended VoTech in Red Wing. He worked for Crenlo in Rochester and the Oak Center Creamery. A motorcycle accident in 1991 caused him to change professions and he became self employed as a cattle dehorner and was co-owner of the Gilsdorf Welding Shop in Bellechester. He was a member of the Bellechester Post #598 American Legion and the A.I.R. Motorcycle Club and enjoyed cycle riding, hunting and fishing.
Ray is survived by his two daughters: Tina (Will) Cross of Colfax, WI and Nicole Gilsdorf of Red Wing; three grandchildren: Brandon, Laney and Kimber Cross; four brothers: Kenneth (Diane) of Mazeppa, Larry and Charles (Kim) of Bellechester, and Ervin (Denise) of Elgin; two sisters: Mary (Lloyd) Powell of Ottumwa, IA and Louise (Gary) King of Lake City; one sister-in-law, Karen Gilsdorf of Rochester; and many nieces and nephews. Ray was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Ethel; and one brother Cyril.
Visitation will be 2 hours before the service at the church on Saturday.
