Ralph Gordon Olson

Ralph G. Olson, age 86, of Red Wing, passed away on March 11, 2015. Preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Alice, and sisters Gladys Olson and Bernice Strandquist. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Pat; children, Karen Pirzadeh (Mehdi), Tom (Henresa), and Jon (Teddy); grandchildren, Sara Miller (Roy), Cameron, Nina, Angela, Sam, Isaac, and Sherwin; great-grandchildren Kellan, Katia and Sayuri. Ralph was born in Argyle, MN on August 8, 1928. He attended grade school at Poplar Grove School in Alma Township and graduated from Argyle High in 1945. He attended the University of Minnesota where he earned a degree in Agricultural Engineering in 1950. He was drafted into the army in 1951 and served in the Korean War for two years. Ralph married Patricia Thomas, a nurse from Lincoln, NE, on February 20, 1954, in Minneapolis. The couple lived in Bloomington, MN, where he was Sr. Lubrication Engr. for Sinclair Oil until 1971 when he worked for Mobil Oil and moved his family to Nashville, TN. After 2 years, the family relocated to Grand Rapids, MN. In August 1974, Ralph suffered a stroke, which rendered him unable to work. He spent the rest of his days volunteering. He enjoyed woodworking with patients at Leisure Hills Nursing Home and getting patients to their physical therapy appointments at Grand Rapids Hospital. In 1991, Ralph and Pat moved to Red Wing where he continued to volunteer: ushering at the Sheldon Theatre, delivering Meals on Wheels, and valet parking at Fairview Hospital. He was a member of the Kiwanis Golden "K," and First Presbyterian Church. Ralph was also a Mason and member of the American Legion Club since 1961.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Monday, March 23, 2015 at First Presbyterian Church in Red Wing with Rev. David Reiter officiating. Burial will be in the Oakwood Cemetery.
