Ralph James O'Connors age 89 of Lake City passed away Saturday, December 26, 2009 at the Lake City Nursing Home.
Ralph James O'Connors was born July 4th, 1920 to Meta (Yackel) and Edward O'Connors in Elgin, Minnesota. He went to Plainview schools and the University of Minnesota, graduating as a chemical engineer in 1941. He married Ionne G. Anderson in 1942 in Appleton, Minnesota. Ralph worked for Union Carbide and lived in Buffalo, New York. While there Ralph also assisted with the Manhattan Project during WW II. He helped design the Union Carbide plant in Sistersville, West Virginia and then ran it. Later he was comptroller in New York City and they lived in Scarsdale, returning to Sistersville to be assistant plant manager there. When he retired in 1978 he was international production manager for Union Carbide. After they retired they moved to Lake City. Ralph was a member of First Lutheran Church in Lake City. He was also a member of the Lake City Kiwanis Club and the Lake City Planning Commission. He enjoyed fishing and traveling throughout the world with his wife.
He is survived by his wife, Ionne, and a son, James Edward of New Brighton, Minnesota; two nephews John (Connie) Rollings of Vernon Center, MN, Jerry (Renee) Rollings of Garden City, MN.
He was preceded in death by a daughter Patricia, a sister Inez (O'Connors) Rollings, and his parents.
A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at 11:00 AM at First Lutheran Church in Lake City with Rev. Darren Paulson officiating. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church.
