Ralph A. Goede

June 6, 1921 — September 2, 2016

Pastor Ralph Arthur Goede, 95, was called to his heavenly home by the grace of his LORD and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday September 2, 2016.

Ralph was born June 6, 1921 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Arthur and Adele (Krutz) Goede. He became a child of God by the sacrament of Holy Baptism on June 25, 1921 and reaffirmed his baptismal faith on April 14, 1935 when he was confirmed at St. Jacobi Ev. Lutheran Church in Milwaukee. He attended St. Martini-St. Jacobi Lutheran School grades 1-8. He was a 1939 graduate of Northwestern Prep School and a 1943 graduate of Northwestern College; both in Watertown, Wisconsin. He took his seminary training at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary at Mequon, Wisconsin, graduating in December 1945. He was ordained January 6, 1946 at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, in Wabasha, Minn. He initially served as Missionary at Large for Wabasha County; which included teaching in the one room Christian day school in Wabasha and conducting services at the preaching station in Kellogg, Minn. He subsequently became the pastor at Our Redeemer in Wabasha. He went on to serve other congregations of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS) in Thiensville, Wis. (Calvary); Milwaukee, Wis. (Nathanael) and Lake City, MN. (St. John's), where he served for 35 years. He retired from the full-time ministry in 1991.

On May 4, 1947 he was united in marriage to Dorothy Albrecht at St. John's in Lake City. Their marriage was blessed with two daughters, Gretchen and Irmgard.

Being a pastor was Ralph's greatest joy. He was a 'good and faithful servant' of the Lord. He was a strong supporter of Christian education and especially loved teaching those with physical and/or developmental challenges, many of whom were then able to become confirmed members of the church.

He enjoyed being outdoors, especially time spent in his flower and herb gardens, taking close-up photos of flowers and feeding the birds. He also enjoyed writing a humor column for the Lake City Graphic for many years. He was also a great people watcher.

Ralph's smile and great sense of humor endeared him to many. And...he was the best dad ever!

During the later years of his life he was blessed through the amazing and compassionate care provided by his personal caregivers.

He is survived by his daughters Gretchen Goede of White Bear Lake, Minn. and Irmgard Goede of Rochester, Minn.; brother Harold of Milwaukee, Wis.; sister Beverly (Pastor Paul) Siegler of Peoria, Ariz.; brother-in-law Bill Bertram of West Allis, Wis.; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Dorothy (April 24, 1989), and sister Mabel Lutz Bertram.

The funeral service will be celebrated on Tuesday, September 6 at 2:00 p.m. at St. John's Ev. Lutheran church in Lake City, Minn.; with Professor David Gosdeck and Pastor Brian Kom officiating. Visitation will be Monday, September 5, from 4-8 p.m. at Mahn Family Funeral Home Anderson-Peterson Chapel of Lake City, and one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery following the service. Online condolences may be placed at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.
