Rachel Elizabeth Stori, age 30, of Lake City, died of cystic fibrosis Sunday, September 08, 2013 at the Fairview University Medical Center. She was born July 19, 1983 in Winona, MN to Mike and Mary (Rainwater) Stori. She graduated from Mankato West High School in 2002. While in high school, Rachel developed a passion for learning German and eventually spent a year studying abroad in Germany. After high school she attended and graduated from the University of North Dakota where she spent another year studying abroad in Regensberg, Germany. She then moved to Mexico where she taught English to elementary students. Her enthusiasm for education brought her to Minnesota State University, Mankato where she taught German as a teaching assistant while earning her Master's Degree in TESL. After receiving her Master's Degree, she was granted a Fulbright teaching assistantship, completing two years in Austria. In June of 2012 Rachel moved to Lake City and worked at the Riverbend Market Coop in Red Wing. Rachel loved nature, animals, gardening, teaching and traveling.
She is survived by her parents, Mike and Mary Stori of Lake City; brother, Andy Stori of Mankato; sister, Nell Stori (Pete Bluth) of Orono, MN; paternal grandmother, Betty Stori of Lake City; maternal grandparents, Dan and Bobbette Rainwater of Lake City. She is preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Edward Stori.
A private family gathering will be held at a later date. Memorials are preferred to the Humane Society of Goodhue County or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
