R. Courtland Anderson

R. Courtland Anderson, 94, Red Wing, died Wednesday at Fairview Red Wing Medical Center. He was born February 13, 1913 in Red Wing, the son of Theodore and Amanda (Johnson) Anderson. He grew up and attended schools in the White Rock area and was a 1933 graduate of Red Wing Central High School. During high school he played football, basketball and baseball. He attended Luther College and graduated from Mankato Business College. He worked for a number of years for Phillips Petroleum in Minneapolis and then enlisted in the U. S. Navy, serving in the Pacific, working as a decoder for three years and eight months. He married Virginia Johnson on November 6, 1947 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Red Wing. They lived in Lakeland, Minnesota where he worked for Brown and Bigelow for 30 years, retiring in 1975. In 2002 the moved to Red Wing and resided at Fairview Seminary Plaza. He was a past member of the Masons, Shriners, the American Legion in Bayport and of the Miss-Croix Yacht Club. He enjoyed boating, doing yard work, bowling, baseball, traveling and wintering in Hawaii for 22 years.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia of Red Wing and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral will be 11 a. m. Saturday at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel with Rev. Eugene Hasselquist officiating. Burial will be in Cannon Falls Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials are preferred to donor's choice.
