Quinten Robert Hawkenson, 81, of Red Wing, died peacefully on Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at Hi-Park Villa where he had resided for a short time. He was born on July 25, 1932, in Red Wing to Leonard and Evelyn (Hall) Hawkenson. He attended Jefferson Elementary and graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1950. He played in the band as well as basketball and baseball. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and softball. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in the Medical Corp. from 1950-1954. Quinten attended Junior College in Rochester, MN. He worked for the State Highway Department on a survey crew for 7 years, then for 10 years as a district manager for the St. Paul Pioneer Press; later Quint worked for the Red Wing Public Works for 15 years and also part-time as a school bus driver for Lee Lines for 14 years before looking to retirement. Quinten was a member of the Leo C. Peterson American Legion Post #54, Burnson Lillyblad VFW Post #1218, Izaak Walton League, Red Wing Wildlife League, Frontenac Sportsman Club, and St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Quinten had been active in lay ministry as well as Faith in Action.
He is survived by his four children, Joyann (Warren) Johnson of Bay City, Blake Hawkenson and Molly Ann Presley both of the Twin Cities and Shawna (Rogers) Hornsby of Cleveland, Tennessee; five grandchildren, Brady (Morgan) Johnson, Hilary (Matt) Thom, Parker Johnson, and Amber and Joshua Hornsby; one great-grandchild, Kenzlie Hornsby and one brother, Eugene (Marlene) Hawkenson of Red Wing. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, January 18, 2014, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Reverend Kristen Schlauderaff officiating. Burial will be at St. John's Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday, January 17, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
