Philp W Skeba

Philip William Skeba, 86, Red Wing, died Tuesday, July 31, 2012, at the Seminary Home. He was born January 12, 1926 in Eliot, Maine, the son of Andrew and Florence (Parnham) Skeba. He graduated from Traip Academy in Kittery, Maine in 1943 and entered the U. S. Army Air Corps, serving from February, 1944 to May, 1946. He served in the Pacific Theatre and received the rank of Staff Sergeant. After his discharge he attended Aurora University, graduating in 1950, and then attended Indiana University, graduating in 1956 with a Master's Degree in business management. On June 9, 1951 he was married to Elizabeth Hoyt in Aurora, IL. He worked in Bloomington, Indiana and then moved to Minneapolis where he worked for Univac as well as many other emerging computer companies starting in Minneapolis. They then moved to Red Wing where he worked for Meyer Industries in the contracts and marketing department, retiring in 1987. He continued employment at Xcel Energy at Prairie Island for a number of years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church where he served on the finance committees, the Leo C. Peterson American Legion Post #54, the Masonic Lodge and the Golden Kiwanis where he served as past president. He also volunteered for the Service for Red Wing Seniors and he thoroughly enjoyed traveling.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth; one daughter Valerie (Majid) Skeba of Burbank, CA; one son, Kirk (Cherise) Skeba of Fremont, CA; two sisters, Evelyn (Donald) Schmidt of Lunenburg, MA and Ruth (Fay) Paugh of Strafford, NH. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, William in infancy and Andrew Ralph.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, August 4, 2012 at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel with Reverend Greg Strunk officiating. Burial will be in the Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials are preferred to First United Methodist Church or Red Wing Kiwanis. Condolences may be left at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com.
