Phillip "Phip" D Eckblad

Phillip "Phip" Dale Eckblad, 86, of Red Wing, formerly of Vasa, died Saturday, May 26, 2018 at the Red Wing Health Center. He was born March 12, 1932 in Red Wing to Herbert and Florence (Almquist) Eckblad. In 1950 he graduated from Red Wing High School and then attended the U of M Agricultural School in St. Paul. On June 7, 1958 he married Joan Ersland at First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Kenyon. He farmed in the Vasa area for many years and also owned and operated Welch Grain. In 2014 he and Joan moved to Red Wing. He served on the Goodhue County Farm Bureau and the Vasa Township Board.
He is survived by his wife, Joan; son, Kevin Eckblad of Vasa; daughters, Mary Beth (Steve) Stromback of Duluth, Leann (Tom) Husband of Goodhue, Kari (Bayard) Leonard of Helena, MT; 15 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Grace Nelson of Welch, Linda Knochenmus of Baton Rouge, LA; 2 brothers, David (Beverly) of Roseville, Steven of St. Cloud; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son and son Aaron Eckblad and brother, Jim Eckblad.
Graveside service with be 11 a.m. Friday, June 1, 2018 at the Vasa Lutheran Church Cemetery with Reverend Maureen Hagen officiating. A reception will follow at the Vasa Lutheran Center. Visitation will be 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 31, 2018 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel. Online condolences can be left for the family at www.mahnfamilyfuneralhome.com
