Philip "Poppy" Clarence Litterer, 74, of Red Wing, died Monday, March 28, 2016 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. He was born April 12, 1941 in Danville, Pennsylvania to Norman and Martha (Raup) Litterer. He grew up on the family farm in Danville and played football in high school there. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving from 1960 until his honorable discharge in 1963. While remaining in the Army Reserves until 1966, he and his family moved to the Red Wing area, making their home in Welch. For nearly 30 years he worked for Koch, Flint Hills refinery as a supervisor. He was also a Freemason and member Dakota Lodge, #7 in Hastings. Phil enjoyed woodworking, golf and baking. Anyone who visited his home would leave with an apple pie in one hand and his homemade wine in the other. He will be remembered for his quick wit and sense of humor. Above all, Phil was a hardworking and generous man.
He is survived by his partner, Inge Nemcek of Red Wing; granddaughter, Amanda (Jason) Serrano of St. Paul and great granddaughter, Sophia Squires; and one sister, Ida Taylor of Pennsylvania; as well as nephews, nieces, other family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Maureen; one daughter, Colleen Stevens; three brothers, George, Thomas and Myron Litterer; one sister, Helen Litterer and his parents.
