Peter Griffith

June 6, 1947 — July 18, 2024

Peter Griffith, 77, of Lake City, Minn. passed away unexpectedly on July 18, 2024 in Clearwater, Fla.

Peter was born on June 6, 1947 in Winona, Minn. to Germaine and Edward Griffith. He had a large, close-knit family in Winona and enjoyed spending time with his grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. In his early years, the family moved to Red Wing, Minn. where he attended St. Joseph’s Catholic School and graduated from Red Wing High School, class of 1965. He then attended Winona State University.

After marring Barbara Koester in 1972, they started their life together in Rochester, Minn. They had one daughter, Jody. Peter worked several years for Master Cleaners before starting his own business, Courtly Cleaning, which provided fire and water damage restoration as well as commercial and residential cleaning services. He served the Rochester area for more than 30 years. In 2015, he retired to Lake City with Barbara and soon thereafter, began wintering in Clearwater, FL.

Peter enjoyed camping, fishing, boating, golfing, horseback riding, and slot machines at the casino. He also enjoyed going to summer concerts in the park and motorcycle rides on the county roads surrounding Lake City. He especially enjoyed get-togethers with family and friends - always having a smile on his face and quick-witted joke to make you laugh.

He loved his time in Clearwater, spending time at the pool, playing games at the clubhouse, and attending dances and parties. He was loved and respected and will be missed by all at Mission Hills.

Peter was a man of kindness and generosity, a loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother.

He is survived by his loving, devoted wife, Barbara; his daughter, Jody (Ben) Ruth; grandsons, Owen and Grant; and his sister, Mary (Gene) Kennedy.

Mass of Resurrection will be, 11 a.m. Thursday, August 8, 2024, at the Church of St. Joseph in Red Wing with Reverend Brandon Theisen presiding.
