Perry A. Heitman, 78, passed away Monday , April 19, 2021 at the Mayo Health System Hospital in Lake City .
Perry was born on September 29, 1942 in rural Lake City, to Alfred & Melinda (Plote) Heitman. He attended Country School, then went to St. John’s in the 7th and 8th grade. He graduated from Lake City Lincoln High in 1960. He attended some classes at Red Wing College.
Perry started working at the foundry in Lake City, November 15, 1961. He changed many positions starting in the cast iron foundry and ending 45 years later as Maintenance Supervisor. He worked with the Lake City Police Department and was one of the ten people who started the Lake City Ambulance. He also worked Sunday nights at the Lake City Marina. After his retirement from Federal Mogul in 2006, he continued at the Marina as a guard until 2017. He received an award for 50 years of service to the City of Lake City. He met his wife, Mary Jane, on a blind date in June 1971. They married December 3, 1971 and made their home in rural Lake City and raised 3 sons and a daughter. Perry was a member of the Valley View Assembly of God Church serving as board member, head usher and grounds keeper.
Hunting was his life. He ate, slept and hunted. He hunted elk, moose, turkey, bear, deer and more. He was a lifetime NRA member. Perry was always smiling and happy, always wanted to help anyone who needed help. He enjoyed Wyoming Wildlife magazine. He liked Clint Eastwood movies and westerns.
He is survived by his wife Mary Jane of 49 years; his daughter, Sally (John) Elbert of Ames IA.; his sons, Jon Heitman of Lake City, Steven (Jodi) Heitman of Lake City, James (Michelle) Heitman of Lake City; 11 Grandchildren, Trischa, Mitchel, Elizabeth, Laura, Emily, Tiffanie, Callie, Christie, Shannon, Thomas & Michael; 10 Great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
Perry is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Patricia Richardson, sister-in-law, Margaret, mother-in-law, Elizabeth and his daughter-in-law, Lisa Marie.
A Funeral will be held at Valley View Assembly of God Church in Lake City , on Thursday, April 22, 2021, at 11 am with Pastor Orin Sandberg officiating. The funeral will be live streamed on the Mahn Family Funeral Home Facebook page at 11 am on Thursday. Burial will be at St. John’s Cemetery in Lake City. A walk-through visitation with be Wednesday, April 21, 2021, from 5 to 7 pm at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Anderson – Peterson Chapel in Lake City. Masks and social distancing are required.
