Percy Harlyn Thompson

Percy Harlyn Thompson, 96, of Red Wing, formerly of Goodhue, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 5, 2024, at the Benedictine Living Community in Red Wing. He was born on February 22, 1928, in Red Wing to Peder and Angeline (Thompson) Thompson. He grew up on the family farm in Belle Creek Township and graduated from Goodhue High School in 1945. He farmed with his parents. On September 18, 1948, he was united in marriage to Rosemary Berg at United Lutheran Church in Zumbrota. Together they farmed the Thompson Family Farm. He retired from farming in 1997, but continued to live on the farm. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, trapping, shooting, playing pool, bowling, baseball, doing carpentry work, and playing cards. He was a member of Minneola Lutheran Church, the NRA, and the Trapper’s Association. 

His life was a life well lived and he will be dearly missed by many. 

He is survived by his children, Faye Leslie (Jerry) Schauer of North Branch, Debra Scheffler of Zumbrota, special family friend, Rueben Scheffler, Richard (Peg) Thompson of Red Wing, and Robin (Wes) Urevig of Pine Island; seven grandchildren, Drew Schauer, Andrea Schauer, Jason Scheffler, Tamara Gruhlke, Brian Schriever, Zach Urevig, and Luke Urevig; twelve great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary; his parents; and a sister, Grace Bucholtz.

A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2024, at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Larson Chapel in Zumbrota with Reverend Hannah Bergstrom de Leon officiating. A visitation will be from 1 until 4 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at a later date at the Minneola Lutheran Church Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the Minneola Lutheran Church Building Fund.
