Peggy Jean Miller, 93, of Red Wing, died Saturday, July 1, 2017, at her home at Valentines Assisted Living. She was born on August 8, 1923, in Red Wing, to Eugene and Harriet (Englund) Allyn. She graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1941. On December 4, 1943, she was married to Donald "Muche" Miller at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. For many years her family owned Allyn's Bakery where she worked for many years. Donald died on October 14, 1993. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where she was active in the women's circles and taught Sunday school. She enjoyed cooking, baking and getting together with her coffee friends. She loved animals, especially her dogs. Her family recalls many great gatherings at her home on Ninth St., where she lived for over 50 years in Red Wing, and at the family cottage in Wacouta. She appreciated the enjoyment that her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her, and she will be remembered for her kindness and generosity. She was a friend and neighbor to all.
She is survived by five children, Karen Krafka of Burnsville, Jean (Paul) Wittmer of Rochester, David (Rhea) Miller of Northfield, Heidi (Terry) Gilbertson of Red Wing and Peggy (Paul) Swarts of Red Wing; 14 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Carmen Harris and Myrna Huppert both of Red Wing. She was preceded in death by her husband; two infant sons, Allan and Terry Miller; two great- grandchildren and one son-in-law, David Krafka.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 6, 2017, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Reverend Dana Jackson officiating. Burial will be in the Burnside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and at the church for one hour prior to the service. Memorials are preferred to St. Paul's Lutheran Church Sunday School, Kiwanis Flower Basket Fund or Mayo Red Wing Hospice.
