Wayne Wanous, 95, of Red Wing, died on Sunday, December 1, 2019, at his home at Deer Crest. He was born on May 14, 1924 in Sisseton, South Dakota. Pearl Wanous, 96, of Red Wing died on Sunday January 19, 2020, at her home at Deer Crest. She was born on September 3, 1923 in Roberts County, South Dakota. The two of them met in high school and became high school sweet hearts. They were married on January 8, 1944 in El Paso, Texas while Wayne was in basic training. This marriage lasted over 75 years.
Pearl worked for SuperValu for 38 years retiring as executive secretary. Wayne worked numerous jobs in sales, owned and operated a dry-cleaning business for eight years and then owned his company that created plastic greeting cards. Following their retirement they enjoyed playing golf. That is what brought them to Red Wing in 1992 and they joined the Red Wing Golf Course. They also enjoyed playing bridge and traveling over the years making the biggest trips to Spain and Norway.
Pearl is survived by one sister, Clarice (Stanley) Susman, and the two are survived by several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held for both Pearl and Wayne at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 29, 2020 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel with Pastor Debbie Bradley officiating. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at a later date at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
