Pearl M. Smith, 94, of Rochester, died Thursday (Dec. 13, 2012) at the Stewartville Care Center in Stewartville, MN.
Pearl Margaret Connelly was born Sept. 8, 1918 in Salem Township, Olmsted County, MN to James and Oral (Gwinn) Connelly. She attended school at Byron, MN. After finishing Teacher's Training, she taught in rural schools. She also worked as a PBX Operator at the Kahler Hotel and later as a Unit Assistant at St. Mary's Hospital. She married Elwin Smith on Jan. 16, 1946 at St. John's Catholic Church in Rochester. Elwin died on July 18, 1972. Pearl lived in Arizona for a number of years. While there she was a member of the Naomics, a Care and Share Group, and several card clubs. Pearl had resided at Root River Estates in Stewartville for the past year. She is a member of the Church of St. John the Evangelist and also a Life Member of the Rochester Senior Center.
Survivors include her daughters, Mary (Randy) Stensrud of Rockville, MN; and Pat (Larry) Turner of Rochester; her son, Ken Smith of Pine Island, MN; six grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren. Pearl was preceded in death by her son Elwin, a grandson, a sister, and two brothers.
The memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Mahn Family Funeral Home - Rochester Chapel with Rev. Msgr. Gearld A. Mahon of the Church of St. John the Evangelist officiating. Friends may call one hour before the service on Tuesday. A reception will be held immediately following the memorial service. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
