Palvin "Polly" Benroy Shelstad

Palvin "Polly" Benroy Shelstad, age 95, of Zumbrota, died peacefully on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 at Zumbrota Health Services. He was born on June 12, 1917, to Ludvik and Clara (Benson) Shelstad. On November 20, 1940 he married Vivian Jeanette Flom at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Polly and Vivian farmed in rural Kenyon and Wanamingo, and spent their last farming years in rural Zumbrota.
Polly served on the Kenyon Sunset Home Board, Lands Cemetery Board, and delivered Meals on Wheels. In his later life he enjoyed feeding the birds, riding his Gator, and having coffee with friends. He was a lifelong member of Lands Lutheran Church.
Polly is survived by his children Paul (Pam Gaft) Shelstad of Enumclaw, Washington, Gary (Karen) Shelstad and Barbara (Jerry) Hinrichs of Zumbrota; his five grandchildren, Shawn (Lori) Shelstad, Jeff (Marianella) Shelstad, Todd (Julia) Hinrichs, Heather DeWitz (Dean Greseth) and Mike Hinrichs (Ashley Lucas); three step-grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and nine step-great-grandchildren; four step-great-great-grandchildren; his sisters, Anna Berry, Meldora Myran, Ruthel Zalky; brothers, Bennie H. Shelstad, and Arland (Madelyn) Shelstad.
Polly is preceded in death by his wife, Vivian; his parents, Ludvik and Clara; sisters, Gina Myran, Cora Bjugan, Lydia Miller; his brother, Bennie A. who died as a child.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 9, 2012 at Lands Lutheran Church with Pastor David Krinke officiating. Burial will be in Lands Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2012 at Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota and for one hour prior to the service at the church.
