Ottilia H. Nyberg

Funeral service for Ottilia H. Nyberg will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at Lands Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with spiritual leader Jonathan Kruse and Reverend David Krinke officiating. Burial will be at the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Curtis Krueger, James Kath, Randy Rietmann, Dean Rietmann, Michael Hegseth, and Tony Hegseth.

Ottilia Nyberg, 104, of Pine Island, went to be with God on Christmas Eve. She was born Ottilia Hilda Hegseth on October 23, 1904 in Goodhue County to Peter and Josephine (Johnson) Hegseth. Growing up she spoke only Norwegian until attending Bringld School in Goodhue County where she learned English. After completing eight years of school she began helping care for families in every aspect possible including cooking, baking, cleaning, caring for the young children and helping the elderly members of the family. She married Raymond Nyberg on December 18, 1932 in Goodhue County. They began faming in Dodge County until moving to Dodge Center in 1956. Raymond died in February of 1991. She then moved to Pine Island in 1997 until a fall in 2000 placed her in Pine Haven Care Center. She enjoyed gardening, "digging in the dirt", cooking/baking, sewing, and reading.

She is survived by two daughters, Ethel Krueger of Faribault and Helen (Duane) Rietmann of Rochester; 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 5 great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Philip (Jean) Hegseth of Pine Island; and one sister, Joyce Kihlgren of Pine Island. She is preceded in death by her husband, Raymond; two infant daughters; daughter, Violet Nyberg-Schiesser; son, Vernon Hegseth; brothers, Oberg and John Hegseth, and an infant brother; sister, Ella Hegseth; and one grandson, Rodney Rietmann.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Mahn Family Funeral Home � Mahler Chapel in Pine Island is handling the arrangements.
