Orville Clarence Richter, 77, of Red Wing, died Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at his residence. He was born in Goodhue on June 24, 1934 to Clarence and Madonna (Ryan) Richter. He was raised in Red Wing and graduated from Red Wing Central High School. In 1952 he enlisted in the United States Air Force serving in the Korean War. After being honorably discharged in 1956 he returned to Red Wing. On December 15, 1962 he married Darlene Hinrichs in Frontenac. He worked for Red Wing Shoe Company for 37 years, retiring at the age of 60. After retirement he helped care for his grandson. He enjoyed watching the news and sports, playing cards, fishing, reading and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Church of St. Joseph and the American Legion Leo C. Peterson Post #54.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene of Red Wing; three daughters, Barbara (Don Pittman) Thompson of Red Wing, Sherry (Don) Murphy of Savage, and Kimberly (John) Byrne of Red Wing; eight grandchildren, Cassie, Zachary, Alex, Jacob, Josh, Chris, Allison, and Ellie; one brother, Roger (Sandy) Richter of Burnsville; one sister, Dolores (Jim Bergeson) Schreck of Las Vegas, NV.
He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Eugene, Earl and Glenn Richter; and one sister, LaRay Laqua.
Mass of Resurrection will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 19, 2011 at the Church of St. Joseph with Father Thomas M. Kommers presiding. Burial with military honors by the Leo C. Peterson American Legion #54 will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Friday, November 18, 2011 at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and for one hour prior to the service. Memorials are preferred to the donor's choice.
