Orville Reuben Larson

Graveside committal rites for Orville Larson will be afforded on Thursday June 12th at 11:30 AM at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis. The Rev. Susan Li will officiate, and military honors will be provided by the Fort Snelling Rifle Squad. Mr. Larson, 90, of Rochester, died Thursday June 5, 2014 at Cottagewood Senior Community in Rochester.
Orville Reuben Larson was born September 13, 1923 to Hazel and Reuben Larson in Colfax, Wisconsin. He attended high school there and then enlisted in the Army Air Corps at the start of World War II. He was a radio operator in a B-24 bomber and flew 23 missions over Germany before returning home.
He married the love of his life, Jane Paul, on March 31, 1955 and they raised two daughters together, Jenny and Wendy.
After the service, he returned to Colfax to work in the family gas/service station, eventually buying it from his father. It was truly a family business and you would often see Jane and the girls there, as well as Orv. After he sold the station in the mid-1980s, he also worked part-time mowing at the golf course, and then as a driver for Commercial Testing Labs.
While in Colfax, he served on the Colfax Village Board, was on the Dunn County Board, and was a member of the Colfax Nursing Home Board, and the Colfax Lutheran Church council. He was a member of the American Legion of Colfax, and was a member of Mount Olive Lutheran Church in Rochester.
He and Jane moved to Rochester in 2007, and eventually to Cottagewood in 2011 after he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. While in Rochester, he was able to go on an Honor Flight to Washington DC with other World War II veterans, and he still remembered that up until the end of his life.
He was a wonderful husband and father, and he adored his two grandkids. Everyone enjoyed his presence. We, his family, especially want to thank the Cottagewood staff who showed their love through all their kindness to him and to his family in his final days. He will be dearly missed.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jane Larson of Rochester; daughters, Jennifer (Jim) Dervin of Rochester, Wendy Larson of Eagan; two grandchildren, Michaela and Kyle Dervin; three sisters, Helen (Tom) Baehler of Rockford, Illinois, Sue (Don) Kolek of Ashland, Wisconsin, Jan (Harlen) Amundson of Nisswa, Minnesota; and a sister-in-law, Jan Larson of Sheboygan, Wisconsin.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles "Chuck" Larson, and a sister, Jean Larson, in infancy.
