Orrin F. Shelton age 78 of Pine Island died early Tuesday morning, October 10, 2006 at the Pine Haven Care Center in Pine Island. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Friday, October 13, 2006 at 10:00 AM at St. Michael?s Catholic Church in Pine Island with Father Timothy Dolan celebrating the mass. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the Charles Cowden American Legion Post #184 of Pine Island. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, October 12, 2006 from 4:00 ? 8:00 P.M. at the Mahn Family Funeral Home ? Mahler Chapel in Pine Island and on Friday one hour prior to the mass at the church. Orrin Francis Shelton was born on December 31, 1927 in Milton Township, Dodge County, MN to Earl and Rosa (nee Zeller) Shelton. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school. He attended high school in West Concord before enlisting in the U.S. Navy on February 2, 1943. He served during WW II and was honorably discharged on March 15, 1945. He returned to the Pine Island area and received his high school diploma from Pine Island High School. Orrin attended the Minnesota School of Medical Technology for several years. On October 31, 1946 he married Phyllis Y. Reinhart in Pine Island (Phyllis died on March 28, 1987). They made their home in Pine Island until 1951. They moved to Iowa Falls, IA, returning to Pine Island in 1957. Orrin worked as a Lab and X-Ray Technician for Olmsted Medical and Surgical Group until 1975. He then managed the Legion Lanes in Pine Island for five years. Orrin worked for the U.S. Postal System for fourteen years, retiring in 1994. On April 16, 1994 he married Virginia "Peg" Fredrickson in Pine Island and they made their home in Pine Island. Orrin was a member and past commander of the Charles Cowden American Legion Post #184, St. Michael?s Catholic Church and a life member of the American Hunting Club. He enjoyed all sports, but especially hunting and bowling. Orrin is survived by his wife Virginia "Peg", two sons, Mike (Cyd Einck) Shelton of Edina, and Todd (Mary) Shelton of Pine Island, three daughters, Linda Caine of St. Charles, IL, Margaret "Peggy" Hanson of Zumbrota and Paige (Robert) Lyons of Farmington, stepsons, Scott (Sandy) Stucky of Northwood, IA, and Craig Stucky of Albert Lea, stepdaughters, Brenda (David) Strenge of Ellendale and Andrea (Kurt) Nelson of Crystal, twenty six grandchildren, five great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Orrin was preceded in death by his first wife, Phyllis, sister, Olive Weaver, an infant son and son-in-law, Jim Caine. The family suggests memorials to the Pine Island Area Home Services or Donor?s choice.
