Ora Margaret Swenson

Ora M. Swenson age 96 of Zumbrota died on Wednesday, August 31, 2011 at the Zumbrota Health Services. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2011 at 11:00 AM at United Redeemer Lutheran Church in Zumbrota with Pastor Tom Isaacson officiating. Burial will be in United Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be on Saturday from 10:00 - 11:00 Am at the church.
Ora Margaret Finstuen was born on February 14, 1915 on the Swain Homestead farm in Zumbrota Township, Goodhue Co., MN to Oscar and Laura (Swain) Finstuen. She was baptized at the old Norwegian Lutheran Synod Church and was confirmed and married at United Lutheran Church in Zumbrota.
Ora attended country school through eighth grade and graduated from Zumbrota High School with the class of 1933. After high school she worked as a second aide in two different Mayo doctors' homes in Rochester. During World War II she married Wallace Swenson of White Rock, MN on August 29, 1942. They lived in Fort Smith, Arkansas for two years until Wallace's deployment overseas. Ora had several different jobs during their married life. The last job she held was in 1964 as one of the first employees of the new Zumbrota Nursing Home. In 1974 after retiring Ora continued to do volunteer work at the nursing home. She enjoyed family and friends, and her favorite hobby was playing bridge in different bridge clubs. She was always a member of the United Lutheran Church and United Redeemer Lutheran Church. She was active in Sunday school, Ladies Aid, circles, quilting and the Lydia Group for many years.
Ora is survived by one daughter, Barbara (Kenneth) Rossow of Maplewood; one grandson, Dean (Melissa) Rossow of South St. Paul; one granddaughter, Brenda (Elvis) Phillips of Blue Bell, PA; two great-grandsons, Teddy and Joe Rossow; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wallace on June 6, 1982 and one brother, Herman Finstuen.
