Olive Mae Johnson
Olive Mae Johnson, 93, of Red Wing, died Thursday at Fairview Seminary Home. She was born March 30, 1915 in Hager City, Wisconsin to Arthur and Edna (Neidemyer) Pofahl. She graduated from Central High School in 1933 and earned her 2 year teaching certificate at River Falls Teacher's College in Wisconsin. She married Carl R. Johnson on January 31, 1938 and they lived in the Burnside area. Although she spent some of her time teaching in Wisconsin and at a one room school in Welch, she spent most of her teaching career as a 4th grade teacher at Burnside School, retiring in 1976. In 1967, she earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in education with a minor in art from the University of Wisconsin, River Falls. She also worked part time at the Red Wing Pottery Salesroom for many years. Carl died July 31, 1968. A member of United Lutheran Church, she enjoyed traveling, gardening and square dancing.
She is survived by her daughter, Nona (Syl) Rotering; 2 grandsons, Todd (Lori) Carlson of Red Wing and Troy (Melissa) Carlson of Welch; 4 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; 2 sister-in-laws and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a sister, Alice Schooley and 3 brothers, Irvin, Lee, and Merlin Pofahl.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at United Lutheran Church with Reverend Steve Timm officiating. Burial will be at Burnside Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials preferred to the Kiwanis Flower Basket Fund or the church. Arrangements handled by Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel.
