Oeun Sin, 87, of Rochester, MN, peacefully passed away on March 28, 2022, surrounded by loved ones.
Oeun was born on August 11, 1934, in Battambang, Cambodia. She naturally had maternal instinct at an early age and helped raise many relatives in Cambodia. She married Tay Chhay at the age of 16 and they later had 5 children of their own. Oeun and her family relocated to the United States in 1982. They spent a few years in North Dakota and eventually made their way to Madison, Wisconsin, where Oeun and Tay had many friends.
Oeun was a devoted Buddhist and spent much of her time at the temple. Her spirituality helped her connect with nature, which was showcased in her garden, where she grew her own herbs and vegetables. You could always find her in the kitchen cooking authentic Cambodian meals for all her loved ones. She was passionate about making sure everyone was well fed and would immediately put together a plate the second she saw any of her grandchildren, who she loved dearly.
Oeun is survived by her husband, Tay Chhay; her five children; Chantha and his wife Paula, Sokha and his wife Pheap, Sophie and her boyfriend Saran, Sophal and her husband Kab, and Sophea; her grandchildren; Alyssa, Paulina, Ashley, Chastity, Christopher, Chauvin, Vanessa, Narvin, Sonya, Jesse, and Emily; and great-grandson, Leo.
Oeun loved everyone and was loved by all. She will be greatly missed. May she rest in peace.
