Norman A. Fredrickson, age 91, of Wanamingo died on Friday April 1, 2011 at Pine Haven Care Center in Pine Island.
A memorial service is scheduled for 11:00 AM on Wednesday April 13, 2011 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home - Larson Chapel in Zumbrota with the Reverend Christopher Culuris officiating. The visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery on Thursday April 14.
Norman Arland Fredrickson was born on September 23, 1919 in Minneola Township, Goodhue County, MN to Alfred and Nettie (Finnie) Fredrickson. He attended country school. On April 22, 1941 he was the second person in Goodhue County to be drafted into the United States Army. He served in the 34th Division, 101st Ordinance, Mule Division. As a Sergeant he was honorably discharged on May 24, 1945. When he returned from the Army, Norman worked as a carpenter in lumber yards in both Mazeppa and Wanamingo and farmed on the family farm. In later years he helped his brothers. After retiring, Norman spent most of his time fishing at Agate Bay near Lake Mille Lacs. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Wanamingo and Quamme VFW Post #186 in Wanamingo.
Norman is survived by his children, Linda Veith of Cottonwood, AZ, Renny (Debbie) Fredrickson of Tamarac, FL, Terry Bowman of Tucson, AZ, Tim (Janice) Fredrickson of Hobbs, NM, and Tom (Leslee) Fredrickson of Sedona, AZ; grandchildren, Aaron (Melissa) Veith of Cottonwood, AZ, Elizabeth (Evan) Scheffler of Menomenie, WI, Andy Bowman of Afghanistan, Joey and Sam Bowman, both of Tucson, AZ, Peter Bowman of New Orleans, LA, and Kyle Fredrickson of Hobbs, NM; great grandchild, Brady Veith; sister, Darlene (Lyle) Bordson of Bloomington, MN; sisters-in-law, Evelyn Fredrickson and Thelma Fredrickson, both of Wanamingo; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Nettie; his sisters, Rozella Loos, Oress Tiller, Adeline Gregoire, and Marion Reinhardt; and his brothers Herbert, Grant, and Donavan Fredrickson.
