Norman John Deden, 95, Red Wing, died Sunday at his residence. He was born October 14, 1911, in Belvidere Twsp., Minnesota, the son of John and Alvina (Bartels) Deden and attended school in Hay Creek. On August 7, 1941, he married Harriet Lillian Thomson at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Hay Creek. He served in the US Army 1943-1946, serving in the Pacific Theater during WW II. He became sole proprietor of Norm's Mobil Service Station in 1946 and later relocated it to Main Street. He then operated Norm's Conoco and retired in 1973. After retiring, he did wheel alignments for Tripp's Tire Store. He was one of the first members of Concordia Lutheran Church where he served as President, Financial Secretary and usher. For 26 years they had a summer home in Balsam Lake where he was able to spend his time fishing. He also enjoyed playing cards and woodworking.
Survivors include his wife, Harriet of Red Wing; two children, Stanley (Joanne) Deden of Andover, Minn and Joan (Bill) Wykoff of Clarkston, Wash; three grandchildren: Cara (Timothy) Torkelson, Kyle Deden and Jeff (Marsha) Wykoff; five great-grandchildren: Tevin, Ella, Brandon, Keith and Trinity. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lawrence and Leonard Deden.
Funeral will be 11 a. m. Saturday at Concordia Lutheran Church with Reverend Ron Stehr officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Hay Creek. Pallbearers will be Tim Torkelson, Kyle, Roger and Bernie Deden, Terry Hubbard and Jim Roberts. Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Wykoff, Hubert Voth, Roger Knudtsen, Al Tomhave, Les Milbrath. Visitation will be 4-6 p.m. Friday at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and on Saturday for one hour prior to the service at the church. Memorials are preferred to Concordia Lutheran Church or Fairview Red Wing Area Hospice.
