Funeral services for Norman Bjorngaard will be held Friday September 10th at 11:00 AM at Lands Lutheran Church in Zumbrota, where he was a lifelong member. The Rev. David Krinke will officiate, and burial will follow at the church cemetery. The visitation will be Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Larson Chapel, in Zumbrota and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. Mr. Bjorngaard, 95, died Monday September 6, 2021 at his home where he had recently been receiving palliative care.
A lifelong Roscoe Township resident, Norman was born July 30, 1926 the son of Ned and Minnie (Grove) Bjorngaard. Norman farmed with his father and brothers. Working construction, he erected steel pole barns, and worked at Maple Island. He met the love of his life, Joan Brehmer, at a barn dance north of Goodhue. The couple married on November 19, 1949 at the parsonage at Lands Lutheran Church. He enjoyed going to dances with Joan, having coffee with friends at the Cenex in Wanamingo, and spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his sons Brian Bjorngaard of Zumbrota and Tim (Becki) Bjorngaard of Rochester; a daughter Vickie Bjorngaard of Roscoe Township; grandchildren Jennifer (Jeff) Whitesel, Stacey, Amber, Christopher, Erika, Mathew (Nicole), and Erik (Ashley) Bjorngaard, Kaitlyn (Cleary) Grubb, and Carisa Bjorngaard; great-grandchildren Theresa (Ryan), Tyler, Trystan, Lilyana, Robbie, Kiara, Arya, Nick, Tanner, and Zarrick; great-great-granchildren Hannah, Ella, Ida, Camri, and Barron. He is also survived by his sisters Loretta Broas, Rose Durhman, and Sharon Bjorngaard.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years Joan; parents; a son Bruce Bjorngaard; a grandson Brian Blake Bjorngaard; and siblings Joel, Thelma, and Vernon.
The family would like to thank the staff at Mayo Hospice’s Red Wing branch, and a special thank you to Rev. David Krinke and the members of Lands Lutheran Church.
