A celebration for the life of Norma Lorraine Gerths will be held Saturday May 7th at 2:00 PM at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Rochester Chapel. Mrs. Gerths, age 92, of Wabasha, MN. passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 10, 2016 at the Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield, MN.
Norma was born on August 2, 1923 to Duncan and Nora (Swanson) Ferguson in Mankato, MN. and later moved to Plainview and attended school there.
She attended the Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester and on July 23, 1946, she married Richard Gerths Sr., who she met while caring for his father. They made their home in Rochester, raised 4 children and celebrated 59 years of marriage. Upon retirement they enjoyed time at the Mississippi River and spending winters in Yuma, Arizona.
Norma spent her entire career as a nurse and worked 18 years at the Methodist Hospital in the infection control department and was known as the ‘bug lady'. She was a long-time member of the Hospital Auxiliary.
Norma is survived by her children and grandchildren; daughter, Cathy (Kevin) Solem of Buffalo City, WS, grand-daughter, Jeanne (Jay) Scott, daughter, Debby (Marv) Babcock of Alton, IA, grand-daughter, Andrea Babcock, grandson, Joshua (Kelli) Babcock; great-grandchildren, Brooklyn and Addison, grand-daughter Melannie (Travis) Hofmeyer, son, Richard Jr ‘Scooter' (Joan) Gerths of Chatfield, MN, grandson, Eric Gerths, grand-daughter, Vicky (Adam) Brummond and daughter, Laurie (Ric) Marzolf of New Hampton IA; grandson Robbi Marzolf and grand-daughter Katie Marzolf, sisters Mary Cottrell of Tucson AZ, Phyllis (Harold) Thomas of St Paul, MN. and Barb (Bob) Sorensen of Tucson, AZ, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dick, brother, Bill Ferguson and brother-in law, Nicki Cottrell.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Chosen Valley Care Center of Chatfield and St. Mary's Hospital for the wonderful care and attention given to Norma over the last 9 years.
