Nils Fauchald, 82, of Red Wing, passed away at home on Friday, May 22, 2020 with his beloved wife by his side. He was born on August 20, 1937, in Ellensburg Washington, to Nils and Edna Fauchald. After graduating high school in Bellevue, Washington, he completed his undergraduate studies at Yale University and graduated medical school from University of Washington Medical School, Seattle, Washington.
Upon completion of his specialty training in orthopedics and medical service as a captain in the Air Force, he settled in to start his 42 year practice in Red Wing, MN.
He married the love of his life, Ellis Fauchald, and together they built a family filled with so much love and happiness.
When not at work, Nils, Ellis and their gaggle of kids could be found navigating the channels up and down the Mississippi River on the beautiful wooden boats Nils so loved. This was the place where friendships were forged and memories were built for a lifetime. As the children grew and grandchildren entered his life, he was blessed to spend many fun filled years with family on the lake in Northern Minnesota.
Nils had an avid love for gardening, his canine companions, and woodworking. He approached every project with the devotion and immense precision that only a surgeon could have.
Along with his family and close friends, his retirement years were also active with his church family at First Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Ellis, daughter Trina (Todd) of Red Wing, daughter Jennifer of Florida, son Jay (Donna) of Chaska, son Christian, of Edenton, N.C., daughter Jill (Jordon) of Duluth, and son Nick (Rotem) of St. Paul, grandchildren Matthew (Megan), Jess, Andrew (Haliey), Adam, Travis, Hannah, Ethan, Anna, and Oren; sister Susie (Charlie) of Gig Harbor, sister Ann of Raleigh, N.C. and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edna and Nils Fauchald and one niece, Jennifer Sherman.
Due to the pandemic restrictions, funeral services will be private.
