Neil George Youngs

Neil George Youngs, 55, of Bay City, died Thursday at Fairview University Medical Center in Minneapolis. He was born on October 16, 1952, in Kenosha, Wisconsin to Ronald and Patricia (Herrick) Youngs. At the age of five he moved with his family to California. He graduated from Notre Dame High School in Riverside, California in 1971 and then served in the US Army during the Vietnam War, serving as Helicopter Crew Chief. On March 16, 1975, he was married to Lorelei Mitchell. They lived briefly in Illinois, where he received his Air Frame and Power Plant License, two years in Iran, ten years in Louisiana and in 1987 moved to Minnesota. In 1989 they moved to Bay City. He worked many years for Northwest Airlines as an aircraft inspector and in 2003 took a disability retirement. He was a past master of the Red Wing Masonic Lodge #8 and a member of the Scottish Rite Lodge of Perfection in St. Paul. He enjoyed aviation and flew his own ultra light plane and also enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Lorelei; two daughters, Alison Youngs of Red Wing and Renee Youngs of Bay City; one granddaughter, Aliyah Youngs of Bay City; his father, Ronald Youngs of Decatur, Alabama; three brothers, Grant (Debbie) Youngs of Waterloo, Illinois, Kevin Youngs of Boston, Massachusetts and Kent Youngs of Melbourne, Florida; one sister, Tina (Perry) Naylor of New Zealand along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother.
Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday with a 7:30 p.m. masonic service followed by a funeral service all at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel. Honorary pallbearers will be Jay Oberg, Denny Clemens and Ken Scott. Memorials are preferred to the Fairview University Masonic Cancer Center or the Transplant Center. Blood donations to the American Red Cross blood bank are also preferred.
