Nancy May Koenig, 88, of Pine Island, died on Wednesday, June 23, 2021, at Spring Valley Living in Spring Valley, MN. She was born in Winona on April 7, 1933, and raised by Dorothy (Wahl) and Erwin Squires. She attended Winona Central High School and graduated in the class of 1951. She was united in marriage to Gerald B. Koenig on January 9, 1954, in Las Vegas, NV. They made their home in the Pine Island Community. They were blessed with four children, Dana Koenig, Cynthia DeWall, Dorothy “Ditto” Pietrzak, and Mark Koenig and cared for five foster children, Carrie Patton, Eljean Kramer, Barbara Rodenz, Pat Rich, and Don Parish. Nancy was a bookkeeper for their business, Koenig Electric. The two later divorced. Nancy enjoyed various crafts, crocheting, knitting, and making cards, yearly calendars and butterflies. She also found joy in teaching ceramics to others and playing bingo. She was a lifetime member of the Pine Island American Legion Auxiliary Unit 184.
She is survived by four children, Dana (Bekka Rolstad) Koenig of Pine Island, Cynthia (Wayne) DeWall of Grand Meadow, Dorothy “Ditto” (Doug) Pietrzak of Cadiz, KY, and Mark (Jean) Koenig of Pine Island; foster child, Carrie (Tom “Rob” Trenary) Patton; 14 grandchildren, Luke, Erica, Sean, Josh, Ben, Brett, Jordan, Jen, Chris, Jessica, Nikki, Molly, Bobbi, and Dustin; and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Harold “Butch” DuBois.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 184 in Nancy's name.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. on Monday, June 28, 2021 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Mahler Chapel in Pine Island with Pastor Michael Rambo officiating.
