N. Harriet Peper-Nelson

January 13, 2018 — June 23, 2009

N. Harriet Peper Nelson, 91, of Vasa, Minnesota - Harriet, as her many friends knew her - passed away at St. Brigid's at Hi Park, Red Wing, Minnesota on June 23, 2009 after a prolonged illness.

Harriet was born in Hallock, MN, January 13, 1918 to Julius and Ida (Ingeman) Truedson. As a youngster she was baptized in the Red River Church. Her family moved to Red Wing when Harriet was at an early age. She attended Red Wing schools and graduated from Red Wing High School in the class of 1935. Education was to become her avocation. After completing Teachers Training in 1936, and teaching in rural schools, she received a scholarship to St. Cloud Teacher's College where she earned a two-year teaching certificate. After that, Harriet taught school in Coon Rapids and Burnside, MN, before returning to Goodhue County to teach in Belvidere. Harriet married Floyd Peper in 1942 while he was serving in the US Army. When Floyd returned from the service, they settled down in Belvidere where they raised their two children. After her husband passed away in 1978, Harriet continued her teaching career and retired in 1980 after 39 years, 23 of which were spent teaching at the Red Wing Training School. In 1984, Harriet was married to Earl Nelson and moved to Vasa. She was a former member of First Lutheran Church in Red Wing and currently a member of Vasa Lutheran Church.

Harriet was an extensive traveler having made several trips to Hawaii, Europe and Asia, as well as most of the United States. Harriet and Earl both truly enjoyed spending time at their "place" in Venice, Florida but always returning to the Red Wing area to be with their friends and family. In addition, Harriet loved her many pets.

Survivors include her husband, Earl Nelson; her son Gary Peper and friend Tamelyn Holter of Bloomington, MN; her daughter Trudy Luman and her husband, Jim of Greensboro, NC; her brother Chester Truedson and his wife Marge of Duluth, MN and many nieces and nephews. Her parents, two sisters Ione Howe and Beatrice Bombach and her brother Myles Truedson preceded Harriet in death.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Vasa Lutheran Church or Belvidere Union Cemetery.
