Myrtle Peterson

Myrtle Jeanette Peterson, 98, of Welch died Sunday, October 17,2010 at the Fairview Red Wing Medical Center. She was born on February 7, 1912 in Welch Township to August and Adelia (Swanson) Johnson. When she was four years old she moved with her parents to the farm overlooking Welch. She attended schools in Welch. On April 27, 1946 she was married to Carl L. Peterson. They lived in Red Wing for a year then moved back and purchased her family farm where she resided until the time of her death. Carl died on December 11, 1993. She was a lifelong member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church where she was baptized and confirmed. Myrtle enjoyed gardening, having coffee with friends, eating lutefisk, hiking in the pasture or to the bluff, crocheting, quilting, canning and making pickles, baking bread and photography. Her family and friends remember all the love she surrounded them with over the years.

Survivors include five sons, Ronald (Bonnie) Peterson of Welch, LeRoy (Gail) Peterson of Welch, Lloyd (Julia) Peterson of Elmwood, Wis., James (Rob) Peterson of Minnetonka, and Robert (Julianne) Peterson of Welch and one daughter, Janis (Everett) Rolli of Staples, Minn.; 17 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Nettie Peterson of Bay City and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, one brother, Earl Johnson and one sister, Mourine Gruber and twin infant sisters. The family wishes to express deep appreciation to LeRoy and Gail for the loving care they gave Myrtle the last year of her life.

Funeral will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 20, at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church with Rev. Bob Albing officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tues., Oct 19, at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and at the church one hour prior to the service. Memorials are preferred to the donor's choice.
