Myron Dennis Schettl

October 9, 1928 — November 30, 2015

Myron Dennis Schettl was born on October 9, 1928 to Joseph and Mathilda (nee Rueden) Schettl in Manitowoc, WI. Myron attended Catholic Elementary School and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1947. He then joined the US Army and was stationed in Panama in 1946 and was honorably discharged in 1949. Myron then attended DeVrey University and received a degree in Electrical Engineering. In 1954 he married LaVerne Strauss at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Maple Grove, WI. In 1959 Myron went to work for IBM where he received several patents, after retiring in 1989 he then established Shady Haven Tree Farms. As a tree farmer he planted thousands of trees, many to be cut for Christmas trees or left as our heritage for the future. He did custom sawing and drying of the lumber for over 20 years. Myron sold the finished lumber for wood workers and carvers, shipping across the US. He was named Tree Farmer of the Year in 1987 and also served on the board of the MN Forestry Association in 2000. He was an active member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and Rochester Wood Carvers.
Myron is survived by his wife of 61 years, LaVerne; daughter, Andrea "AJ" (Keith) Maxson; sons, Eric Schettl, Matthew (Rochel) Schettl; daughter at heart, Tammy Schettl; grandchildren, David, Shalon, Aaron, Tabitha, Tony, Tyler, Erica, Halie, Samantha; great-grandchildren, Levi, Leah, Abbie and Aiden.
Myron was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; one sister; and an infant daughter.
