Murlene "Murt" Gertrude Krier, 93 of Red Wing, died Sunday, July 31, 2011 at the Fairview Seminary Home. She was born June 23, 1918 in Zumbrota to Clarence and Elsie (Hosington) Baez and attended school there. She married Harry Krier in March of 1950 and they lived in Burnside. She had worked part-time cleaning homes and also at Braschler's Bakery. Harry died in 1976. Murlene greatly enjoyed baking, especially pies and all of her family loved, "Grandma Sweetie's" pies. She also enjoyed watching the birds, tuning into a parade on tv or in the past watching the Lawrence Welk show, and she always enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and had been involved with helping on the funeral lunch committee.
She is survived by her daughter, Elsie (Dave) Langsdorf of Cannon Falls; 2 granddaughters, Connie (Mark) Miller of Cannon Falls and Wendy (Kevin) McGuire of Red Wing; 4 great-grandchildren, Blake (Amanda) Miller, Becca & Curt Augustin and Bailey (Mike) Ramirez; 4 great-great-grandchildren, Chloe, Leah & Sage Ramirez and Dawson Sandford; a brother, Lyle (Carla) Baez of Madison, Wisc. and a sister, Eleanor Knudsen of Red Wing.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harry; daughter, Debra Krier and a sister, Vivian Nielson.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2011 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church with Reverend Lynne Rigg officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church.
