Monica Goeser

December 29, 1939 — February 14, 2013

Monica Velma Goeser, 73, of Red Wing, formerly of Shelby and Earling, Iowa, died Thursday, February 14, 2013 at the Seminary Home in Red Wing. She was born on December 29, 1939 in Portsmouth, Iowa to Raymond and Adeline (Klein) Thielen. She graduated in 1957 from Portsmouth High School. On January 23, 1958 she was united in marriage to Joseph Goeser. They farmed in Earling, Iowa where they raised their eight children. She also worked for Charter Data Service for 25 years before her retirement. In November 2008, they moved to Red Wing. In Earling she was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church where she was a member of the Altar Society. In Red Wing, she was a member of the Church of St. Joseph. She enjoyed being together with her family and friends and attending her family's sport events. Her family recalls how wonderful of cook she was and that Valentine's Day was very special to her.

Survivors include her husband of 55 years Joseph; seven children, Debra (Michael) Crabbe of Underwood, IA, Jolene Stoffel of Council Bluffs, IA, Timothy (Annette) Goeser of Council Bluffs, IA, Lisa (Sen. John) Howe of Red Wing, Jeffrey (Rachelle) Goeser of Davenport, Iowa, Brian (Melissa) Goeser of Farmington and Jennifer (Todd) Petersen of Herman, NE; 17 grandchildren and six great grandchildren; nine siblings, Delores (Ray) Dotzler of Omaha, NE, Al (Linda) Thielen of Las Vegas, NV, Raymond (Judy) Thielen of Omaha, NE, Elaine (Buzz) Wendt of Portsmouth, IA, Chuck (Lydia) Thielen of Lincoln, NE, Shirley (Bob) Hanson of Millard, NE, Gemia Finken of Merriman, MO, Aggie (Paul) Schulte of Carroll, Iowa and Mary Maddox of Maryland and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by one son, Michael; two brothers, Nicholas and Eugene and one sister, Dori Olson.

Mass of Resurrection will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, February 23, 2013 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Earling, IA with Father Chris Fontanini officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be for ½ hour prior to the service. Reception will follow service at the Earling Hall. Cards may be sent to the family at PO Box 172, Red Wing, MN 55066.
